Book Presentation: German Artists in Exile 1933-1943

We kindly invite you and your friends to our soiree on Thursday, the 22nd of March 2018, at 7pm at the „Möwe“. The author, collector and publisher Thomas B. Schumann will present his textual illustration „Deutsche Künstler im Exil 1933-1945“ during our current exhibition of “The Breslau Art Academy: Gerhart Hein and His Companions”.

Thomas B. Schumann, owning around 600 works, has one of the widest collections concerning artists, who were forced to go into exile by the National Socialists after 1933. His richly illustrated publication from 2016 recollects painters and graphic artists, who lived abroad temporarily or until their death, including artists from the “Breslauer Kunstakademie”. This life change, filled with distress, isolation and the unknown, caused an interruption or even end to many of the artists careers. Over time their art was forgotten and lost public awareness. The band “Deutsche Künstler im Exil 1933-1945” (German Artists in Exile 1933-1945) makes a valuable contribution to restoring the names and works of the exiled and ensuring their deserved place in the art history.

Thomas B. Schumann was honored with the German PEN Hermann Kesten-Price in 2017.

Due to the limited amount of seating places, we kindly ask you to register interest at mail@salongalerie-die-moewe.de or 030/ 30 88 18 42.
