The Power of Balance

Our new exhibition, The Power of Balance, brings together four contemporary artists whose work explores the sea, the human figure, and the landscape. By carefully calibrating opposing forces, they arrive at a visual equilibrium that lends their works a compelling presence.

We warmly invite you and your friends to the opening of the exhibition on Thursday, 19 November 2026, at 6 pm at our gallery at Kurfürstendamm 71, 10709 Berlin. The artists will be present on the evening of the opening and look forward to meeting you and talking with you about their work.

The work of the artist couple Vera Schwelgin and Wolfgang Reinke is closely connected to the Baltic landscape. In her woodcuts, Vera Schwelgin explores fundamental human experiences through archaic, monumental figures, as well as the possibility of a harmonious relationship between humanity and nature. Wolfgang Reinke, by contrast, draws inspiration from the dynamic forces of nature at the sea. His landscapes, marked by virtuoso compositional balance and at times by profound stillness, can also be understood as visual meditations on the human inner condition.

The intensely coloured acrylic paintings of Ute Hausfeld appear sketch-like and light despite their high degree of compositional density. The artist achieves a fascinating balance in her portraits of women in woodcut: they combine a timelessly classical elegance with a fashionable, sophisticated attitude, intimacy with confident self-presentation.

Through the power of balance, sculptor Emerita Pansowová seems to lift the weight from stone. Her human figures often remain suspended in moments of transition, when an intention is gradually and almost imperceptibly transformed into action. Even her seemingly static sculptures convey a sense of growth and becoming. Her bronze sculpture An Gret Palucca, part of the collection of the Neue Nationalgalerie, will be on view in the exhibition.

Complementing the works of the contemporary artists, a small cabinet presents selected works of Classical Modernism and the post-war period.
